Tin Cup, written and directed by Ron Shelton, is a romantic comedy about Roy 'Tin Cup"McAvoy (Kevin Costner), a former golf prodigy whose ambition extends little beyond drinking beer and hanging out at the driving range that he owns. McAvoy meets Dr. Molly Griswold (Rene Russo), a clinical psychologist looking for a golf lesson. An agreement is made to exchange therapy for golf lessons, as McAvoy needs help with his self-confidence in his attempt to qualify for the US Open. When Griswold encourages McAvoy to relax and to be himself, his game improves drastically. Despite his troubles on the 18th hole in the Open, McAvoy plays exceedingly well and wins Molly's heart.
