Things Behind the Sun is a 2001 drama directed by Allison Anders. For three years running, a young woman shows up drunk on the same date, on the same lawn in Cocoa Beach, Florida. The woman is Sherry McGrale (Kim Dickens), a rock and roll singer with a popular song based on her own story of being the victim of a brutal gang rape. As the song grows in popularity, it reaches the ears of Owen Richardson (Gabriel Mann), a young reporter for a Los Angeles based music magazine who was a childhood friend of Sherry. When Owen travels to Florida to meet and interview Sherry, however, it becomes evident that he and Sherry were more than just friends.
