The Unbearable Lightness of Being: Special Edition

The Unbearable Lightness of Being is a 1988 romantic drama starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Juliette Binoche, and Lena Olin and based on the novel of the same name by Milan Kundera. The film tells the story of three Czech intellectuals engaged in an active love triangle during the Prague Spring and the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia. Day-Lewis plays Tomas, a brilliant brain surgeon and habitual womanizer who maintains two steady and loving relationships. Binoche plays Tereza, Tomas' love, who lives with Tomas and tries to understand his lifestyle. Olin plays Sabina, Tomas' lover, an artist who openly carries on an affair with Tomas as she befriends Tereza as well. The three lovers grow to depend on one another as the political climate of 1960s Czechoslovakia reaches a boiling point, threatening to tear them apart from one another. The Unbearable Lightness of Being is a poignant and comprehensive documentary of an important period in Czech history as well as a riveting commentary on the power of love. MORE [EDIT]
