The Tiger and the Snow

The Tiger and the Snow (La Tigre e la neve) is a 2005 comedy film brought to you by actor-director Roberto Benigni (Life is Beautiful, The Monster). In short, the film carries an underlying message of "Love Conquers All'. Attilio de Giovanni (Roberto Benigni) is a romantic poet who teaches literature as a college professor. He frequently dreams about being with a woman he has fallen in love with - Vittoria (Nicoletta Braschi - Benigni's real wife), a traveling journalist. Sadly, his excessive attempts to court her fail miserably. Vittoria soon leaves the country for work in Iraq where she is to document the life of a poet named Fuad (Jean Reno). Despite political upheaval in the Middle East, Attilio follows Vittoria to Iraq and makes every effort to win her attention. That is not to say he doesn't make an absolute fool of himself during the process. The Tiger and the Snow was most likely subliminally created as a sequel to Life is Beautiful. Benigni accurately portrays human faults but doesn't force his audience to engage on an intellectual level - instead, he creates a simple story which is very relatable. Two thumbs up. MORE [EDIT]
