The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada is a film directed by Tommy Lee Jones and written by Guillermo Arriaga (Amores Perros, 21 Grams). The film was highly lauded at the Cannes Film Festival of 2005 where it was nominated for the Palm d'Or. At the same event, Tommy Lee Jones received an award for Best Actor, and Guillermo Arriaga won an award for Best Screenplay. The film is centered around the unfortunate murder and unceremonious burial of a Mexican immigrant named Melquiades Estrada. Mike Norton (Barry Pepper), a border patrolman working in Texas, mistakingly shoots Melquiades one night.
