The Slaughter Rule is a coming of age saga that chronicles the dreary and unstable life of high school senior Roy Chutney (Ryan Gosling). Chutney is raised by his mother, Evangelline (Kelly Lynch), in the small Montana town of Blue Springs. When Roy's estranged father commits suicide, Roy is thrown into the depths of depression. His self-image takes another major blow when he is abruptly cut from his school's football team. He begins to drink heavily with childhood friend, Tracy Two Dogs (Eddie Spears), and begins a relationship with Sklya Sisco (Clea DuVall), the bartender at local dive.
