The Shallow End is a documentary that attempts to dissolve the stereotype of Southern Californians as being stoners, valley girls, and airheads. The film was written and directed by Brian Misakian, as he goes on a journey in search of evidence to disprove this sentiment. The film feels ironic and satirical in nature, because through interviews and experiences, the audience eventually begins to realize that there may be some truth behind these generalizations. The Shallow End touches upon a lot of the pasttimes and activities that are popular among the youth in these areas. Included in the documentary are skating exhibitions and surf videos, in addition to insight offered by Southern California natives. There is also a small featurette entitled, "John Engel's Day Out." This film as a whole is short and to the point, with a run time of approximately thirty minutes. Other supporting actors include Tory Klein, Josh Flynn, and Sam Felman.MORE[EDIT]
