The Roots Of Heaven

The Roots Of Heaven is a 1958 drama directed by John Huston. The film tells the story of an environmental idealist named Morel (Trevor Howard) and his quest to save the African elephant from extinction. Morel states that he sees the African elephant as the last of "The Roots Of Heaven." He begins his mission to save the species in Fort Lamy, French Equatorial Africa, where he garners little initial support. He first gains the assistance of a local nightclub owner, Minna (Juliette Greco), who falls in love with him. His next supporter comes in the form of a washed-up ex-British Army Major named Forsythe (Errol Flynn). Even with the help, Morel is making little ground toward saving the elephants. This all changes when he comes into contact with an American television commentator named Cy Sedgewick (Orson Welles) and photographer Abe Fields (Eddie Albert). The two additions to his fan base help to make his cause internationally known, which leads to a great deal more support and awareness. MORE [EDIT]
