The Roots Of Heaven is a 1958 drama directed by John Huston. The film tells the story of an environmental idealist named Morel (Trevor Howard) and his quest to save the African elephant from extinction. Morel states that he sees the African elephant as the last of "The Roots Of Heaven." He begins his mission to save the species in Fort Lamy, French Equatorial Africa, where he garners little initial support. He first gains the assistance of a local nightclub owner, Minna (Juliette Greco), who falls in love with him.
