The Red Stallion is a 1947 film directed by Lesley Selander. When Joel Curtis (Ted Donaldson) is walking through the woods one day, he finds a young colt. He feels sorry for the horse because it is an orphan like himself. Therefore, he takes the horse back to his grandmother's (Jane Darwell) ranch, names it Red, and quickly forms a bond with the animal. After many years have passed, Joel learns that his grandmother is no longer able to pay the mortgage on her home. The sheriff will auction off her ranch in 30 days if she cannot get the money by then, leaving Joel and Aggie homeless.
