The Rat Race

The Rat Race is an American film that was directed by Robert Mulligan and released in 1960. The movie takes place in New York City and is based around an aspiring jazz musician named Pete Hammond Jr. (Tony Curtis). Hammond, who moved from Milwaukee, Wisconsin to New York City for a fresh start, has a lot of trouble finding work. His luck takes a turn for the worse when scam artists steal his instruments after tricking him into a fake audition. Pete crosses paths with a woman named Peggy Brown (Debbie Reynolds), who has grown increasingly frustrated with her situation after years of struggling to make her way in the big city. When Pete realizes that she was evicted from his new apartment, he offers her a place to stay while she tries to find enough income to support herself.
