The Illusionist is a 2006 film written and directed by Neil Burger. The story revolves around Eisenheim the Illusionist (Edward Norton), a magician who lived in Vienna at the beginning of the 20th century. He is deeply in love with the noble and beautiful Sophie (Jessica Biel), whom he has known since his childhood. Upon returning from traveling the world and practicing his craft, he finds out that Sophie will be forced to marry the Crown Prince Leopold (Rufus Sewell), who wants to use her to get all the state power from the emperor, his aging father. The magician humiliates the prince at a private show which leads to the closing of his performances in Vienna. Eisenheim convinces the woman to escape with him out of the empire, but Leopold finds out about their plan, and brutally assaults Sophie while accusing her of infidelity. Using Inspector Uhl (Paul Giamatti) who found some evidence of Sophie's death, Eisenheim frames the Crown Prince for Sophie's murder, also uncovering his plan to seize the power. Soon Inspector Uhl discovers that magician's most powerful tricks have yet to be uncovered.MORE[EDIT]
