The Golden Gong: The British Cinema Collection Synopsis is a poetic 1985 documentary which chronicles the seemingly accidental success of Britain's most coveted movie mogul - J. Arthur Rank. The film was written and directed by Tom Gutteridge (L'Enfant et les Sortileges and L'Heure); Michael Caine (Get Carter, Hannah and Her Sisters, Alfie, The Prestige) narrates. J. Arthur Rank was an avid filmmaker with a knack for short film. He never imagined creating lengthy cinematic pieces, much less establishing one of Britain's most successful production studios - but he accomplished both! Pinewood Studios was one of the first of it's kind and brought about a lot of change and innovation in Britain's entertainment force. J. Arthur Rank's story is beautifully documented using some of the very art he created, that is, classics such as Caesar and Cleopatra, Brief Encounter, The Red Shoes, The League of Gentleman and Oliver Twist. Dirk Bogarde, Richard Attenborough, Christopher Reeve and Joan Collins are some among the many artists interviewed in this film. A must see for all fans of J. Arthur Rank. MORE [EDIT]
