The Exorcist is a 1973 horror film based on the novel of the same name by William Peter Blatty and starring Ellen Burstyn and Linda Blair. The film tells the story Regan MacNeil (Blair), a twelve-year-old girl living in Georgetown. Regan's mother, Chris (Burstyn), is a movie star currently filming in Georgetown. Chris is a single mother who enjoys a loving and healthy relationship with her daughter. When Regan begins to act strangely, using foul language and experiencing seizures, Chris takes her to see a doctor. However, modern medicine can't identify the source of Regan's behavior. As Regan gets worse and worse, Chris turns to the only option left-the Catholic church, known for their exorcism ritual. This film, directed by William Friedkin, became the highest grossing film of all time and received rave reviews from critics.
