The Exorcism of Emily Rose

The Exorcism of Emily Rose is a horror film directed by Scott Derrickson that revolves around a courtroom case as a defense lawyer taking on the church and the state to prove a priest was not negligent as his decision to perform an exorcism led to the young girl's death. Erin Bruner (Laura Linney) was a skeptic. There was no hiding when it came to her beliefs in religion, but her role as a defense attorney for Father Richard Moore (Tom Wilkinson) pushes her skills as a lawyer and her personal beliefs to the max as she tries to prove her client's innocence, something only done by the acknowledgment of a true demonic possession. Emily Rose (Jennifer Carpenter) was a young college student thought to have epilepsy when she began to experience visions and hallucinations of objects moving, dual voices making demands, and ultimately receiving the wounds of the stigmata. As the prosecutor (Campbell Scott) continues to push for negligence, it becomes clear to Bruner there was something more going on in Emily Rose than a simple illness. The Exorcism of Emily Rose is based somewhat on the story of Anneliese Michel, a young German woman believed to have been possessed and eventually exorcised. MORE [EDIT]
