The Cheap Detective is a 1978 comedy from Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Neil Simon and starring Peter Falk in a parody of the Humphrey Bogart-style detective that was popular in the forties and fifties. Falk plays Detective Lou Peckinpah in this hilarious send-up of several classic Hollywood films, including Casablanca, The Maltese Falcon, A Streetcar Named Desire, and Chinatown. Detective Peckinpah is a hard-boiled investigator who is forced to flee from the police after the death of his partner. The other cops think Peckinpah killed his partner, and the outlaw investigator will have to track down the real killer in order to clear his name.
