The Chase

The Chase is a 1966 drama that was directed by Arthur Penn and stars Marlon Brando, Jane Fonda, Robert Redford, Angie Dickinson and Robert Duvall. Produced by Sam Spielgel and based on an acclaimed play by Horton Foote, The Chase centers on events that occur in a small southern town after a prison escape. Local troublemaker Charles "Bubber" Reeves (Robert Redford) has escaped from prison and returns to his hometown. Oil tycoon Val Rogers (E.G. Marshall) rules the small town and everyone believes that the local sheriff, a man named Calder (Marlon Brando), is merely a puppet. Jason Rogers (James Fox), who is the son of Val Rogers, has had a love affair with Bubber's wife Anna Reeves (Jane Fonda) and is worried that Bubber will find out. It seems that a number of the townspeople have a reason to want Bubber dead. With the support of Val Rogers, the locals turn into vigilantes and organize a manhunt.
