The Blue Lagoon is a romantic adventure film directed by Randal Kleiser based on a novel of the same name by Henry De Vere Stacpoole that chronicles the life and struggles of two young children shipwrecked on a tropical island paradise as they grow and mature without any guidance or societal controls. Cousins Richard and Emmeline Lestrange had been traveling with Richard’s father, Arthur (William Daniels), when their ship caught fire, leaving the two with the dirty-mouthed galley cook, Paddy (Leo McKern). Paddy does his best to offer guidance for the two, even setting up laws to stop them from meeting the island’s cannibalistic visitors and eating the poisonous berries.
