The Alfred Nobel Story is a fascinating look at the man behind the world-famous Nobel Awards. Alfred Nobel (1833-1896) was a Swedish chemist and engineer whose work is known internationally. Nobel's work was extremely varied in the early stages of his career and there are no less than 355 patents registered to him. Nobel made a substantial fortune as a steel magnate supplying steel for war-time cannons, but his personal wealth exploded with his greatest invention - dynamite. Alfred Nobel's last will and testament bequeathed the bulk of his fortune to the establishment of the Nobel Awards, presented in the categories of Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Literature and Peace. This film is presented through the perspective of Bertha Von Sutter, one of the earliest recipients of the Nobel Peace Prize "for her sincere peace activities." Von Sutter tells the story of Alfred Nobel's life with honest simplicity, relating the triumphs and tragedies that shaped the man and set the wheels in motion for the creation of the Nobel Awards, the most prestigious awards in science today.
