Nobel's work was extremely varied in the early stages of his career and there are no less than 355 patents registered to him. Nobel made a substantial fortune as a steel magnate supplying steel for war-time cannons, but his personal wealth exploded with his greatest invention - dynamite. Alfred Nobel's last will and testament bequeathed the bulk of his fortune to the establishment of the Nobel Awards, presented in the categories of Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Literature and Peace.
