Tears of the Sun is a 2003 war film directed by Antoine Fuqua. After a rebel army overthrows the democratic government of Nigeria and instates a new dictator, the Muslim rebels begin to execute all of the Christians in the country. Captain Bill Rhodes (Tom Skerritt) sends a team of United States Navy SEALs to rescue an American doctor, Lena Fiore Kendricks (Monica Bellucci), from a Catholic mission in Nigeria. Lead by Lieutenant A.K. Waters (Bruce Willis), the SEAL team tries to extract Dr. Kendricks, but she refuses to leave the local villagers to be slaughtered by the rebel army.
