Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan is the second installment in the Star Trek film franchise and was released in 1982. The film revolves around the events stemming from an episode of the original Star Trek television series called Space Seed. Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) had stranded the usurper Khan Noonien Singh (Ricardo Montalban) on a deserted planet called Seti Alpha V as a punishment. At the beginning of the film, Kirk has long since retired from active duty in Star Fleet and is relegated to overseeing training exercises like the Kobayashi Maru test, designed to be unbeatable. Commander Pavel Chekov is leading a mission to search for a deserted planet in order to test the experimental Genesis Device, which has the ability to terraform barren planets. He finds Seti Alpha VI to be a possible location, but when scouting the area finds Khan and is taken captive with a mind-control slug. The Enterprise is once again captained by Kirk once it receives a distress call from Chekov. Kirk and Khan are reunited as rivals and their chess game for the Genesis Device begins. Khan eventually gets hold of the Genesis Device and intends on using it to destroy instead of to create. The Enterprise crew must stop Khan from activating the device and escape. Spock (Leonard Nimoy) is eventually forced to make a tragic, albeit logical, choice.MORE[EDIT]
