Springfield Rifle

Springfield Rifle is a 1952 American film directed by Andre De Toth and starring Gary Cooper, Phyllis Thaxter, and David Brian. Set during the American Civil War, the film tells the story of Major Lex Kearney (Cooper), an officer in the Union army posing as a dishonorably discharged soldier who flees to the South. He volunteers to be an undercover spy working in hopes of preventing raids on the shipments of horses that the Union war effort desperately needs. As he becomes friends with the Confederate raiders, he is able to get secret information as to where they are about to attack next. When the Confederates begin to suspect he might be a spy, he must quickly find a way to squash their fears. In the process of discovering Confederate secrets, Kearney learns of Union greed and deceit that cause him to question his own intentions. MORE [EDIT]
