Sparkle is a 1976 musical drama directed by Sam O'Steen. In the late 1950s, three sisters are coming of age in Harlem. Dramatic, high-spirited Sister (Lonette McKee), observant Dolores (Dwan Smith) and good-natured Sparkle (Irene Cara) are all aspiring singers. They start out singing in the church choir, but their friend Stix (Philip Michael Thomas), a budding songwriter, has bigger and better plans in store for them. Together with a fifth choir member, Levi (Dorian Harewood), the five Harlem teenagers start a quintet and soon start gaining attention in local competitions. Sister is a vibrant singer, outshining the others. It seems like the Hearts will go far together, but when Levi drops out, Sister arranges an all-girl group called MORE [EDIT]
