Some Folks Call It a Sling Blade is a short film that tells the story of Karl Childers (Billy Bob Thornton), a mentally disturbed man who has spent the last 25 years of his life in a state-run mental hospital. On the day of his release, a young reporter named Teresa (Molly Ringwald) comes to talk to him. Although Karl has not seen any women during his entire confinement, the hospital administrator (Jefferson Mays) allows the nervous reporter to sit quietly and listen to Karl tell his own story. Teresa is led to a dimly lit room where, in a chilling monologue, Karl talks about a miserable childhood filled with abuse and the harrowing tale of how he committed double murder with a kaiser blade. Directed by George Hickenlooper and written by Billy Bob Thornton, this short film was the inspiration for the Academy Award-winning sleeper hit Sling Blade, which Thornton directed himself.MORE[EDIT]
