Slap Shot is a 1977 sports comedy written by Nancy Dowd and directed by George Roy Hill. The Charleston Chiefs are a struggling minor league hockey team in an industrial city experiencing economic hardship. The team is dead last in the Federal League, it is staffed by players who would prefer to be autoworkers and faces bankruptcy. The team's coach and most veteran player Reg Dunlop (Paul Newman) tries to keep the team operating in spite of apathetic owners and declining attendance.
