Simon Birch

Simon Birch is a 1998 drama written and directed by Mark Steven Johnson. It is based on the novel 'A Prayer For Owen Meany' by John Irving. Simon Birch tells the story of a lifelong friendship between two boys. Simon Birch (Ian Michael Smith) was born with a mysterious medical condition that limited his growth. Simon also believes that God has chosen him for a special purpose. Joe Wenteworth (Joseph Mazzello) is a son of an single mother and a member established conservative New England family with deep roots. The two boys are outcasts, Simon for his size, and Joe for his parentage. After a freak and horrific accident test their friendship, both boys decided to set out to find Joe's father. Just as they are about to succeed in their mission, a situation develops that demands the actions of a hero and Simon steps forward to fullfill his destiny.
