Shakespeare's Women and Claire Bloom

Shakespeare's Women and Claire Bloom is a documentary about Claire Bloom's experiences as a Shakespearean actress. She has performed both lead and supporting roles since she began her career in her teens. The documentary alternates between discussion of her life as an actress and monologues and soliloquies from a number of Shakespeare's plays. She reads from King Henry The Eighth, Romeo and Juliet, The Merchant of Venice as well as others. Claire Bloom sets out to provide a detailed introduction to the world of Shakespeare, taking time to clearly introduce each excerpt. The documentary contains some technical information about acting and stagecraft, along with some film and television clips from her various performances. Additionally, it shows some archive footage. Specifically, it shows John Barrymore and Sarah Bernhardt in a 1900s silent production of Hamlet as well as Laurence Olivier and Frederick Warde in Richard III. The film is narrated by Roger Rees and includes clips from acting lectures delivered by Mrs. Patrick Campbell. This fifty-four minute documentary is directed by Phillip Schopper. MORE [EDIT]
