Shakespeare in Love is a 1998 romantic comedy movie depicting a fictional relationship between William Shakespeare (Joseph Fiennes), author of poems and plays, and a wealthy merchant’s daughter, Viola de Lesseps (Gwyneth Paltrow). Shakespeare is in the process of creating a play that came to be one of his most famous- Romeo and Juliet. Originally he is inspired by the heartbreak caused when his lover cheats on him with his patron, determined to create a tragedy instead of the comedy he had previously been working on.
