Williams, and Mekhi Phifer. Samuel L. Jackson plays John Shaft, a bad ass NYPD detective and nephew of the original Shaft (Richard Roundtree). When called in to investigate a murder believed to be a high profile hate crime, Shaft uncovers a web of corruption and secrecy. Frustrated at the way the law works, Shaft hands in his badge and decides to become a vigilante, serving up his own brand of justice. But when he is tailed by two cops on the killer's payroll, things get bloody. Shaft proves that is is the cat that won't cop out when there's danger all about.
