Sex, Drugs, Rock & Roll is a documentary film directed by John McNaughton and written by Eric Bogosian. This documentary is based on Eric Bogosian and his one-man stage show where he plays ten different characters in succession, none of whom actually interact with or refer to each other. Through his surprising acting performances and engrossing disparate parts that truly adds up to something, in the terms of rock and roll. Filmed in concert-movie style before a live paying crowd using multiple angles, there Ôs a real progression through out the course of the film with thought provoking characters that engage in visceral reactions. Bogosian's earlier work often felt desperate, coercive and overly forced. However, now he has given himself over to the audience and his characters, allowing more freedom in his performances. As his show progresses, Bogosian goes from an ambiguous warm-up with his characters to a more riskier exploration demanding more of him and his audience. As he gets to his last monologues, the audience tunes into his bizarre poetic belief systems as they are convinced that his skewed perspectives are a comprehensive vision of the world which is an amazing feat for any comedic performer to accomplish.
