Semi-Pro (Unrated)

Semi-pro is a sports comedy movie released in 2008 starring Will Ferrell, Andre Benjamin, and Woody Harrelson. Set in the 1970s, Ferrell stars as Jackie Moon. Moon is a singer who spends his money earned from a hit single to buy a team in the American Basketball Association (ABA) called the Flint Tropics. The ABA is planning to merge with the NBA and will only be sending the four best teams to the new league. Moon realizes he must now play to win. He trades for former NBA player Ed Monix (Harrelson) and the team begins to turn around. Even Clarence Withers/Coffee Black/Downtown "Funky Stuff" Malone/Sugar Dunkerton/"Jumping" Johnny Johnson (Benjamin) begins to take the game seriously. The Flint Tropics must also bring up attendance so they resort to stunts like wrestling bears during halftime shows. Eventually the commissioner reveals to Moon that he has no plans to let the Flint Tropics into the league even if they were to finish in first place. Moon responds to this by trading Coffee Black to the first place San Antonio Spurs and hitting rock bottom. It all comes down to the final game between the Flint Tropics and the San Antonio Spurs with Moon's pride on the line. MORE [EDIT]
