Red Meat

Red Meat is a 1997 film about male bonding, modern-day relationships and what men are really looking for in a relationship. Two men regularly meet once a month to work out at a gym, then hang out a restaurant to talk about women and proudly eat "red meat." One is an overbearing attorney, Stefan (John Slatterly), and the other is a dweebish screenwriter, Chris (Stephen Mailer). They used to be part of a larger group, but gradually over the years the members of this group have fallen away leaving just the two. When they run into Victor (James Frain) at the restaurant, an actor and former member of their group, they invite him to their table. They regale Victor with their latest romantic conquests, told in flashback, as Victor listens patiently. When they run out of stories, Victor tells them a story of his own, about his relationship with a dying cancer patient named Ruth (Lara Flynn Boyle).
