Rebel Without a Cause is a 1955 American classic film starring James Dean in his last film role before his death. Jim Stark (Dean) is a seventeen-year-old high school student who has recently moved to Los Angeles. After Jim is arrested for public drunkenness, his parents go to the police to station to pick him up. There it is revealed that they fight regularly and take their anger out on Jim. Jim becomes friends with a fifteen-year-old kid named Plato (Sal Mineo) who has also had a recent spat with law enforcement. Jim makes an enemy in Buzz Gunderson (Corey Allen), and while Jim is at the planetarium Buzz challenges him to a knife fight. When Jim wins the fight, Buzz further challenges him to a "chicken run," in which Buzz and Jim race stolen cars towards a cliff and the first person to jump out is a chicken. When the contest goes awry, Jim is faulted for the death of Buzz and the police hunt him down. Plato helps Jim as he runs, but gets entangled with the police himself. Also starring Natalie Wood, Jim Backus, Ann Doran, and William Hopper, Rebel Without a Cause was inducted into the United States National Film Registry.MORE[EDIT]
