Reality Bites is the story of former valedictorian Lelaina (Winona Ryder). She shares an apartment with Vickie (Janeane Garofalo), a permiscuous girl who sleeps with dozens of guys each week out of the fear of being alone or falling in love and getting rejected. One of Lelaina's friends, Troy (Ethan Hawke), crashes at their apartment after he lost yet another job. The two have feelings for each other, but neither has the bravery to make the move. Lelaina sees Troy as a humorous friend, and Troy sees her as someone far more successful than she is and totally out of his league.
