Ratcatcher

Ratcatcher is a drama about the life of a young boy living in a ghetto in Glasgow during the early 1970s. James Gillepsie (William Eadie) is a 12 year-old boy who lives in a slum. His family is about to be moved into new housing built by the government, but in the interim they are living in a tenement building that has become overrun with rats. One day, James and his best friend, Ryan (Thomas McTaggart) get into a fight that ends up with Ryan dead. Rather than report the event, James says nothing and eventually becomes consumed by the guilt of being responsible for his friend's death. When government workers go on strike, James and his family are forced to wait in their decrepit home. During this time, James forms relationships with his neighbors, the most significant being the one he develops with Margaret Anne (Leanne Mullen), an older, sexually experienced girl.
