Radio Days

Radio Days is a comedic tribute to the golden age of radio programs as seen through the eyes of a modest Jewish family living in Brooklyn. In the 1940s, radio reigned supreme. From popular songs to soap operas to outrageous adventure series, radio waves permeated households throughout the United States, and clearly made a distinct impression on the life of director Woody Allen. In this dramatized collection of vignettes, Allen aptly conveys his love for the lost medium, mainly through the eyes of a young adolescent Jewish kid named Joe (Seth Green) and his family, each of whom have a favorite, can't miss program. His father (Michael Tucker) lives for sports, his mother (Julie Kavner) likes the gossip programs. His aunt (Dianne Weist), pining for the right man, loves to listen to popular music of the time, and for Joe, it doesn't get any better than The Masked Avenger. In this cinematic tribute, Allen playfully shows the part radio plays lives of Joe and his family, juxtaposed with the glamorous and often surprising world of radio itself. From a date gone wrong due to an announcement of a martian takeover, to the revelation that the action adventure stars dumpy, bald physiques don't match their voices, the ever present sound of the radio is as much a part of life as anything. With a star studded cast and breathtaking sets and costumes, Woody Allen's Radio Days hilariously pays homage to art medium that may be gone, but certainly not forgotten. MORE [EDIT]
