Praying with Lior examines the relationship between religious fulfillment and intelligence. This documentary, directed and produced by Ilana Trachtman, follows Lior Liebling, a Jewish boy with Down syndrome who spends most of his days praying. Lior, whose name translates to "my light," lost his birth mother at the age of six. It is Lior's mother who prophetically wondered, the year before her death, what it would be like to see Lior's Bar Mitzvah, the Jewish ceremony celebrating a person's passage into adulthood. The documentary looks at Lior through his family members' point of view as he prepares for his Bar Mitzvah. According to different family members, Lior is often funny, stubborn, and embarrassing. While their opinions often differ, everyone around Lior agrees that he is closer to God than most people. Praying with Lior shows how every person deserves love and acceptance, regardless of whatever differences they are born with. Indeed, the main thing that draws people to Lior is his ability to love others unconditionally.MORE[EDIT]
