Play It Again, Sam

Play It Again, Sam is a 1972 comedy about a nebbish New York film critic named Allan (Woody Allen) struggling through a divorce. His wife (Susan Anspach) leaves him early in the film explaining, "I can't stand the marriage. You are no fun, I feel you suffocate me. I don't feel any rapport with you and I don't like you physically. For God's sake, Allan, don't take it personal." Allan idolizes old movies, especially Humphrey Bogart, and has recurring fantasies where Bogie himself shows up and gives the newly single Allan pointers on how to pick up dames. Between these fantasies, Allan attempts to re-enter the dating scene with the help of his married friends Dick (Tony Roberts) and Linda (Diane Keaton). Unfortunately, Allan finds himself increasingly attracted to Linda. What is Bogie's advice about married women? Woody Allen wrote the script for Play It Again, Sam which was directed by Herbert Ross.
