Play It Again, Sam is a 1972 comedy about a nebbish New York film critic named Allan (Woody Allen) struggling through a divorce. His wife (Susan Anspach) leaves him early in the film explaining, "I can't stand the marriage. You are no fun, I feel you suffocate me. I don't feel any rapport with you and I don't like you physically. For God's sake, Allan, don't take it personal." Allan idolizes old movies, especially Humphrey Bogart, and has recurring fantasies where Bogie himself shows up and gives the newly single Allan pointers on how to pick up dames.
