Planet of the Apes is the 2001 remake of the classic original film, adapted from the source novel by Pierre Bouille (Bridge on the River Kwai), and brought to the big screen this time by macabre mind Tim Burton (Batman, Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice). On a training run in space, astronaut Captain Leo Davidson (Mark Wahlberg, The Departed, The Fighter) and his team run afoul of a strange singularity in outer space that sucks in their ship, crash landing them on a strange, seemingly uninhabited planet. Upon further exploration, Leo discovers that the planet is ruled by a race of super intelligent apes that seem to be the dominant species ' humans like he reduced to servitude.
