Perversion of Justice is a documentary about one of the many facets of the criminal justice system in America. What can be said about a judiciary system that allows hardened criminals to walk the streets, yet levies extraordinarily harsh sentences of non-violent drug offenses? For Hamedah Hasan, it is a problem that hits far to close to home. She was incarcerated for years following an arrest related to illegal drugs. This film takes a look at how her family has dealt with the tragedy and chronicles the ways in which her children are struggling to carry on their lives without a mother. Also included are interviews with her children, where they explain the hardships that they have had to face growing up in their mothers absence, who is incarcerated thousands of miles from their home. A movement to make sentences for such charges less severe has arisen out of this woman's adversity and tragic fate.MORE[EDIT]
