Padma Nadir Majhi is a 1993 Indian Bengali film based on the same named novel by the literary icon, Manik Bandopadhay. Winner of the National Film Award, Padma Nadir Majhi follows the story of Hossain Miya (Utpal Dutta), a Bengali Muslim trader, who holds an idealistic vision of creating a utopian paradise on an island in the Padma delta. The film is set during the troublesome times before India was split into two countries in 1947. Hossain hopes Hindu and Muslim can live together in peace on the island. Hossain teams up with a Hindu fisherman, Kuber (Raisul Islam Asad), to ferry the community's cargo to the island. A recent storm drove away all the fish, leaving Kuber with nothing to do.
