Orfeu is a 1999 Brazilian film directed by Carlos Diegues starring Toni Garrido and Patricia Franca. The film is based on the play Orfeu da Conceicao by Vinicius de Moraes, which is a re-imagining of the Greek legend of Orpheus and Eurydice. Set in the slums of Rio de Janeiro, Orfeu de Conceicao (Garrido) is one of the most famous samba players in Brazil. Orfeu is respected for his generosity and kindness amongst those living in the slums, which are run by the drug lord Lucinho (Murilo Benicio). With Carnival fast approaching, Orfeu finds himself falling in love with Euridce (Franca). The violence of the slum, however, is almost too much for their blossoming romance. Lucinho also takes a liking to Euridice, and challenges Orfeu MORE [EDIT]
