Orange County stars Colin Hanks as Shaun Brumder, a surfer kid from an affluent family who lives the typical California slacker lifestyle. Shaun (Hanks) and his best friend, Lonny (Bret Harrison), party and drink their way through high school, until Lonny dies in a surfing accident. Lonny's unexpected death causes Shaun to re-examine his life, and his plans for the future. He knows he wants more from his life than his drug-addled brother, Lance (Jack Black), and his alcoholic mother, Cindy (Catherine O'Hara), are willing to settle for. Completely turning his life around, Shaun earns high marks in school, and aces his SAT's, hoping for acceptance to Stanford University. His carefully laid plans go badly awry, however, when his flighty guidance counselor, Ms. Cobb (Lily Tomlin), fails to send the proper transcript with his Stanford application. With his dreams crushed, the slacker turned class president knows he has to plead his case to the Stanford admissions office. Shaun sets off on a road trip to Stanford, accompanied by his girlfriend, Ashley (Schuyler Fisk), and brother Lance, hoping against hope his last-ditch efforts will work to his advantage.
