On the Old Spanish Trail

On the Old Spanish Trail is a 1947 American western directed by William Witney. Roy Rogers (Roy Rogers), a young rancher, who co-signed a $10,000 note for his musician friends, The Sons of the Pioneers (Sons of the Pioneers), is in deep trouble after his friends are unable to repay the debt. Silas MacIntyre (Wheaton Chambers), the holder of the note, wants his money back, but agrees to give Rogers a two-week extension. In search of a solution, Rogers rides off to meet with friends who are owners of the "Great Southwestern Tent Shows." When he arrives, he learns of a suspicious connection between the show and a spate of oil company payroll robberies. Everyone suspects a Gypsy named Rico (Tito Guízar). Tempted with a reward, Rogers sets off to capture Rico. He soon learns that Rico is only following his infatuation for the show's singing star, Candy Martin (Jane Frazee), and not involved in the robberies.
