Old Man Hottabych is satiric comedy, based on a modern Russian fairy tale. The book, on which the movie is based, was originally written by Lazar Lagin, a Soviet children's writer and satirist, in 1937. The film version, also known by the name The Flying Carpet, was produced in 1957, and directed by Soviet director Gennadi Kazansky. In the film, a 12-year old Moscow school boy, Volka (Aleksei Litvinov), is bathing in the Moskva River when he finds an old bottle. Because he is naturally curious, he opens the bottle and releases a magical genie (Nikolai Volkov). The genie tells the boy his name is Abdurrahman ibn Khottab, or Khottabych. Grateful for his freedom, Khottabych devotes himself to the boy, calling him Hottabych. MORE [EDIT]
