Nueba Yol

Nueba Yol is a Dominican film that explores the immigrant experience in New York circa mid-1990s through the eyes of one Balbuena (Luisito Marti), a Dominican. In the story, Balbuena lived happily in Santo Domingo until his wife passed away. He then determines that he will move to New York and start over. Leveraging all of his wealth, he manages to make it there, only to discover that the New York of book and film is not necessarily the same as the real thing. Discovering love amidst one of the more challenging sets of life experience one could have, Balbuena manages to keep his wits and his sense of humor about him as he becomes acquainted with the city he now calls home. The nuances of his complex relationship with the family of distant cousins who help keep him afloat help underpin the plot. A comedy, Nueba Yol proved to be so popular with Dominican and international audiences that a sequel was made in the years that followed. MORE [EDIT]
