No Impact Man: The Documentary is a film about a year in the life of the Beavan family as they try to reduce their impact on the environment to zero. The idea is spearheaded by Colin Beavan, a non-fiction writer who decides to try and live an entire year without producing any trash, buying only local food, using no transportation that is powered by fossil fuels and using no toilet paper. The film begins with the family turning off the lights in their Manhattan apartment and lighting candles. Initially, they begin their "no impact" lifestyle gradually. Over time, however, they slowly remove every modern convenience from their lives. It is a difficult adjustment, particularly for Beavan's wife, Michelle Conlin. Eventually, the drastic lifestyle change causes problems in the couple's marriage, and Michelle begins to stray from the core "no impact" mission. Will Colin Beavan succeed in his quest? No Impact Man questions the materialism of American culture and asks the question, "Does having more really make us happy?"MORE[EDIT]
