Nearing Grace is a 2005 film adaptation of the Scott Sommer novel directed by Rick Rosenthal. In the year 1978, high school senior Henry Nearing (Gregory Smith) is tenuously holding together the wreckage of his family following the recent death of his mother. Henry's father Shep (David Morse) and brother Blair (David Moscow) are lost in despair, embracing drugs, detaching themselves from the family unit and indulging their every impulsive whim. In the meantime, Henry is coping with the daily trials of high school while slowly becoming smitten with the alluring and popular, yet possibly insane, Grace (Jordana Brewster) to the lamentation of Henry's childhood friend, Merna (Ashley Johnson), who harbors her own secret crush on Henry.
