National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation is a Christmas comedy film directed by Jeremiah S. Chechik as the third installment in the National Lampoon’s Vacation series, which follows the bumbling misadventures of the Griswold family in their efforts to enjoy their vacations and holidays. Of course, nothing ever goes right. Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase), the patriarch of this disaster-prone clan, is trying his best to have the best Yuletide holiday ever with the best Christmas tree, a beautifully lit house, happy reunions with his family, and a surprise in the form of a new in-ground pool, funded by his yearly bonus. He finds the tree after hours of searching, but forgets the saw. He and his son Rusty (Johnny Galecki) string up around 25,000 Christmas lights, nearly killing himself in the process, to find that a fuse is short somewhere. His wife Ellen’s (Beverly D’Angelo) redneck cousins, Eddie (Randy Quaid) and Catherine (Miriam Flynn), land in their driveway in a beat up sewage seeping RV with their two young children, Ruby and Rocky, and a snot-covered Rottweiler. No holiday is a bore once the SWAT team sieges the house and the tree catches on fire. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, written by John Hughes, is considered the best of the series and a modern holiday classic, often ranked in the top ten of Christmas movies. It also stars many notable actors such as Juliette Lewis, John Randolph, Diane Ladd, E.G. Marshall, Doris Roberts, and William Hickey.MORE[EDIT]
