My Family

My Family is the sprawling, 1995 generational drama epic from celebrated writer-director Gregory Nava (Selena, El Norte, Why Do Fools Fall in Love, Bordertown) and producer Francis Ford Coppola (The Godfather, Apocalypse Now, Bram Stoker's Dracula). The movie follows various members of the Sanchez family around through the years 1926 to 1980. The film can almost be classified as an anthology because of many different story lines based around various members of the family. The first story is Jose Sanchez's (Eduardo Lopez Rojas) struggle to get in to the United States, and how he met Maria (when younger played by Jennifer Lopez, older by Jenny Gago). The second story, set 25 years later, is about daughter Irene's (Maria Canals) wedding and son Chucho's (Esai Morales) gang life. The third story, set another 20 years later, is about son Jimmy (Jimmy Smits) and when he gets out of prison, gets married, has a son, goes back in prison and tries to make up with his five year old estranged son raised by his grandparents.
