Milk is the critically acclaimed tale of Harvey Milk (Sean Penn), gay rights activist and California's first openly gay elected official. Milk and his partner Scott Smith (James Franco) move from New York to San Francisco's Castro District in search of greater acceptance of their lifestyle. When he still encounters opposition to his way of life, Milk becomes one of San Francisco's most outspoken gay activists. His activism soon paves the way for a succession of political campaigns, with his third resulting in his election to the office of city supervisor.
